However, frequent safety inspections are occurring in the production areas, and some areas are still experiencing short-term shutdowns due to inspections. The current safety inspection situation is severe, with some coal mines experiencing a 20-70% decline in output compared to the previous period due to various factors such as safety concerns, previous overproduction, inspections, and the dismissal of outsourced construction teams. Overall, the tight supply situation in the production areas is unlikely to improve in the short term. China Coal Resource Network will continue to monitor the specific progress of coal mine resumption.
Data from China Coal Resource Network shows that on June 9th, a total of 45 coking coal mines in the province (Changzhi, Taiyuan, Jinzhong, Lüliang, and Linfen) suspended production, involving a capacity of 50.8 million tons. The number of suspended mines decreased by 11 compared to the previous day, and by 73 compared to May 25th. The suspended production capacity decreased by 10.2 million tons compared to the previous day, and by 83.7 million tons compared to May 25th.
Regionally, one coal mine in Changzhi's Shangdang area of Shanxi Province resumed production today. As of June 9th, according to statistics from China Coal Resource Network, a total of 26 coal mines in Changzhi were shut down, a decrease of one mine from yesterday and 12 mines from May 25th. The total shut-down capacity in Changzhi is 31.3 million tons, a decrease of 900,000 tons from yesterday and 19.3 million tons from May 25th. The shut-down mines mainly involve lean coking coal, prime coking coal, and semi-alloy coal. All mines in Qinyuan area remain shut down.
Two mines each in Xiangyuan County and Shangdang District are shut down.
In Linfen, some shut-down mines continue to resume operations. One new mine resumed production today, and two new mines shut down. As of June 9th, according to statistics from China Coal Resource Network, a total of 4 coal mines in Linfen were shut down, an increase of one mine from yesterday and a decrease of 18 mines from May 25th. Currently, the total suspended production capacity in the Linfen area is 3.9 million tons, unchanged from yesterday and down 22.4 million tons from May 25th. The suspended coal types mainly include 1/3 coking coal, prime coking coal, and fat coal. Safety inspections are ongoing, making it difficult to increase coal mine output, and the short-term supply will remain tight.
In the Gujiao area of Taiyuan, suspended coal mines are gradually resuming production. As of June 9th, according to statistics from China Coal Resource Network, there are currently 2 suspended coal mines in Gujiao, with 2 newly resumed, a decrease of 4 compared to May 25th. The total suspended production capacity in Gujiao is currently 1.2 million tons, a decrease of 1.8 million tons from yesterday and a decrease of 3 million tons from May 25th. However, the output of the resumed mines is generally low due to safety and other factors. Some coal mines in Lingshi area of Jinzhong have resumed production. According to a survey by China Coal Resource Network, six new coal mines in Lingshi resumed production today. As of the 9th, the number of coal mines that were shut down in the area has decreased to seven, a decrease of six mines compared to the previous day, and a decrease of 17 mines compared to May 25th. The current shut-down capacity is 7.2 million tons, a decrease of 4.5 million tons compared to the previous day, and a decrease of 15.3 million tons compared to May 25th. The shut-down mines mainly produce coking coal and coking coal. However, considering safety and frequent inspections, the output of the resumed mines has declined to varying degrees compared to before the shutdown, and the local supply remains tight.

All low-gas mines in the Pingyao area have resumed production, while high-gas mines are still awaiting acceptance before resuming operations. According to a survey by China Coal Resource Network, one new mine in the Pingyao area resumed production today. As of June 9th, two mines were shut down due to accidents, a decrease of one mine compared to the previous day and three mines compared to May 25th. Currently, the annual production capacity of the shut-down coal mines is 2.4 million tons, a decrease of 1.2 million tons compared to the previous day and 2.4 million tons compared to May 25th. The shut-down mines mainly produce coking coal and lean coal. Some resumed mines have seen a decline in output after resuming production due to safety considerations, and local supply remains tight.
The shutdown situation in other areas remained unchanged today.
