China Iron And Steel Association: In August, The Total Energy Consumption Of Member Enterprises Fell By 5.17% Year-on-year, While Comprehensive Energy Consumption Per Tonne Of Steel Rose By 0.96% Year-on-year

In August 2026, the total energy consumption of member enterprises decreased by 5.17% year-on-year; comprehensive energy consumption per ton of steel increased by 0.96%; comparable energy consumption per ton of steel increased by 2.67%; and electricity consumption per ton of steel decreased by 0.12%. Total electricity consumption by member enterprises fell by 10.96% year-on-year. Total self-generated electricity dropped by 5.39%, while the self-generation ratio reached 68.53%, an increase of 1.55 percentage points year-on-year. Electricity generation from clean energy sources rose by 18.29%; specifically, wind power generation increased by 0.45%, and photovoltaic power generation increased by 25.86%. Water consumption by member enterprises increased by 40.5188 million cubic meters, a year-on-year rise of 0.48%. Of this, water withdrawal increased by 85,400 cubic meters (up 0.06% year-on-year), and the volume of reused water increased by 40.4432 million cubic meters (up 0.48% year-on-year). The water reuse rate stood at 98.40%, up 0.01 percentage points year-on-year, while water withdrawal per ton of steel was 2.67 cubic meters, an increase of 6.45% year-on-year. Wastewater discharge by member enterprises increased by 8.46% year-on-year, with ammonia-nitrogen emissions rising by 14.67%; emissions of chemical oxygen demand (COD), volatile phenols, total cyanides, suspended solids, and petroleum-related pollutants decreased by 0.60%, 37.60%, 42.37%, 1.94%, and 23.15%, respectively. Total waste gas emissions from member enterprises fell by 2.77% year-on-year; emissions of sulfur dioxide, particulate matter, and nitrogen oxides decreased by 12.71%, 15.05%, and 7.84%, respectively. Regarding the comprehensive utilization of solid waste, the utilization rates for steel slag, blast furnace slag, and iron-bearing dust/sludge all remained above 99%. In terms of combustible gas utilization, the utilization rates for blast furnace gas, converter gas, and coke oven gas remained above 97%.
